ARTIST: CHARLES ROBERTSON

MEDIUM: Painting

STYLE: Wildlife

ABOUT

Charles grew up in the bayous of southern Louisiana just outside of New Orleans, where he developed an interest in the local wildlife and environment After a year in college, he spent four years in the U. S. Air Force. When he returned to Louisiana, he acquired a degree in Advertising Design. At that time, most advertising art used markers, watercolors and dyes, and I found that I was drawn to painting in water-based paints.

In 2004, he retired from the Houston Police Department after 32 years of service and now lives in Tyler, Texas. Retirement has afforded him the opportunity to paint more. He now paints exclusively with “gouache”, which is an opaque water-based medium. This allows him to paint more effectively in the “hyper-realism” style that he enjoys the most. His goal is to help the observer more strongly connect to the subject as well as its environment.
